Cemetery Review Update
Work has been continuing on increasing the capacity for burials in the Parish as the existing cemetery begins to fill up.
The favoured option is to extend the existing cemetery in a southerly direction though other possibilities can be considered. The Planning Office at SGC has made a number of stipulations regarding any application for extension and the implications of these are currently being reviewed against cost considerations.
As part of the process, a thorough review of the existing cemetery was conducted recently and identified a number of issues to be addressed including repairs to the lychgate, pruning back of bushes, clearing of overgrowth and requirement for 'topple' testing of some older gravestones. A sign advertising the fact that Commonwealth War Graves are present is also to be requested.
Chris Harding, Chairman said "The Cemetery is a vital asset to the Hawkesbury Parish community and the amount of effort being put into maintaining the current facility and planning for its future reflects this importance".
